Aussie’s Will Be Aussie’s

February 26, 2008

Now im not giving MY home country any stereotypes but Australians are well known for their non feared, outgoing and a bit arrogant. The tensions between India and Australia have always been high but i think this whole thing is going way to far. On Sunday at the SCG during a Commonwealth Bank Series Match the young 19 year old clean bowled Andrew Symonds out. The celebration by Ishant Sharma was in my opinion outrageous and unsportsmanlike. In the video below you are able to see that the Indian bowler clearly points to the pavilion and taunts the Australian batsmen. All the umpires heard from the incident was Symonds complementing the young man and then Ishant Sharma trash talking him in return. Yesterday Ishant Sharma was fined for his outright rude celebration

This wasnt the only thing that happened on this historical day, after Adam Gilchrist was removed by a “beautiful” diving catch by the Indian captain. The former Australian wicket keeper, and now telecaster/announcer  made a point that the webbing on the gloves was to large. The umpires were informed of this and confiscated one glove for further investigation. After the match the umpires deemed the gloves to be illegal with extra webbing. The Indian team doged a fine by them saying they had used them before but if they used them again they would be fined.

Wondering why it was historical?  It was because the great performance by  Ricky Ponting  and his 124. This was his  best score at the SCG.

 ITS VOCAB TIME!

SCG- Sydney Cricket Grounds

Clean Bowled- When the ball goes cleanly through the wickets without making contact with anything except the ground therefore making the player out

Pavilion- The area in a stadium where the players locker rooms are located

Removed- To be out

Wicket Keeper – The position played behind the wickets being bowled at. This is the only position gloves are allowed to be used in.

The Controversy Continues

February 18, 2008

The March/April Australia tour of Pakistan is looking doubtful at this point due to safety issues. As you probably already know the security and state of government in Pakistan is in a troubled situation. Terrorist attacks are becoming common and with the Government elections tomorrow it could get worse. The Australian Cricket Association has sent safety professionals to review the conditions. There are a few points of view in this situation firstly Pakistan’s. Pakistan believes that if they keep on canceling tours and sporting events that it would mean the terrorists have won but the only way to stop them is show that it doesn’t effect us by going on with the events yet keeping it safe. Australia believes that if there were to be an incident that could risk lives then it could scare the world of cricket forever. There will be a full assessment of the safety a week today. If Australia does not play this series Pakistan is threating not to play the series in Australia in 2009.

Oh The Irony

January 18, 2008

The WACA is renowned for its lighting quick stumps and as you should already know Harbhajan Singh is not playing. Harbhajan Singh is one of the worlds best speed bowlers. The irony has not shown itself yet but if Australia has an amazing 2nd innings the conversation might come out.

Frighting Friday

January 18, 2008

After a tough first day yesterday, Australia is looking to turn things around on day 2 in Perth. India elected to bat first at the WACA which looks like a good one. After pounding out 331 runs, in front of the Australian dominated crowd, put Australia in one of the first real early troubled situations. Australia’s batting struggled against some strong Indian bowling only compiling 212 runs. Australia’s best batsmen scored only 66 runs which was Andrew Symonds. Before the day ended India was able to begin their 2nd innings and got straight to work and are currently 52/1 as they await the commencement of day 2. The current time is 10:00 AM in Perth so we are an hour an a half away from India’s triumphant battle.

Perfect for Cricket. This weather report was taken at 6:35 am Perth time. But as the good weather keeps the fans happy their is sure to be some more tension on the oval. My question is will this effect the quality of the cricket because Harbhajan Singh the Indian player who made the racial slur on Andrew Simons is one of India’s best players but if you look at my last blog has been suspended until 3 of India’s test have been played. He also will have a hearing with the ICC before the Melbourne Test.

The Build Up To Wednesday

January 15, 2008

As people are counting down the days until Wednesday the 16th of January, when the 3rd Australia-India Test starts at the WACA (Western Australian Cricket Association). Which was the location of my the first cricket match viewed by my eyes. There is an unusual amount hype to this test due to the racist remarks by of the Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh who illegally called the only black/aboriginal player on Australia “a monkey”. Originally India canceled the tour due to high tensions which i agree was a smart idea not that Australia would do anything to Singh. I just think that comments like that need time for it to cool over players, coaches, fans and reporters heads.India due to some encouragment from the WACA and Australian cricket association has decided to go on with the tests while Harbhajan Singh will sit out the rest of the series and is awaiting further punishment from the furious Indian Cricket Association. I hope to keep you updated on the Perth Test which will go on from the 16th- 20th.

Mid-Way Through 3rd Session

November 19, 2007

After Australia decided to declare, again believe it or not, Sri Lanka was left to battle with Australia down by 507 runs. Hope is not lost yet for Sri Lanka, they are currently 155/1 and keeping a very good pace. My prediction is that Sri Lanka will come back and win this test with 3 men remaining. Thats just my opinion what do you think? I also think that the decision to declare after only 210 runs was a bad one. Thats not enough insurance, Australia thought they made this test in the bag but right now there in a sticky wicket. I will write tomorrow with the days final statistics and get ready for another addition of William Wicket Review

Day Three in Review-Wickets Washed Away

November 17, 2007

In the words of Borat WOWOWWEWOW. Australia must of had a mighty lunch putting Sri Lanka all out for only 246! Australia also decided to bat there second innings. I guess they did not think a 296 run lead would get them far enough. In my opinion i agree with this decision because number one that amount of runs is not enough and number two in a way it is good sports man ship. Last test they decided to not bat in the second innings but this time they are showing that they don’t think there that good and they want to make it a game. Good on you Aussies. My prediction is by tea time tomorrow this match will be O V A H for all you Kath and Kim fans out there. Kath and Kim is one of my favorite Aussie shows that i love to watch. If anyone out there has any suggestions on what to write about over the break that would be great. Unfortunately all you blogger out there who come to my site often, the imaginary ones in my head, i might only be able to give a review tomorrow since i have a very busy Sunday. I will try my best though. Talk later

Lunch on Day 3

November 17, 2007

As the teams sit down for some sandwiches i will review what has happened in the match so far. Sri Lanka is 127/3 and is 415 runs down from Australia’s declared innings. When a captain declares an innings the captain is for fitting there at bat. I am enjoying watching Australia play up a storm in Hobart. Haha, I kill myself sometimes. By storm i am refering to the Sydney to Hobart Sailing race. Just to let you know this series takes a break when this test is over and resumes on February 5th. I am working on what to write about during the break, either the Prime Ministers XI or another International team. I will write about the Test either at Tea time or the end of the game.

Désolé Tout le Monde

November 17, 2007

I apologize that i did not post the score this morning :( . Well Australia poured on the frosting to the cake with a 542 run inning going out with 5 outs. Sri Lanka has much work to do and they currently sit at 29/0. I also want to annonce that Jaques finished with 150 runs on the dot accomplishing a century and a half. He wasn’t alone with Hussy scoring 132 runs. This is going to be a nail bitter.
